Certificated Employees
Professional: These are occupations requiring a college degree and a credential. The occupations at the San Mateo County Office of Education which are either teaching or support positions that require credentials are the following: special education teacher, juvenile court or community school teacher, ROP instructor, school psychologist, counselor, school nurse, speech and language specialist, vocational transition specialist.
Management: These positions require the Administrative Credential which is an additional credential beyond a teaching or service credential. In order to obtain the Administrative Credential, one must have three years experience in a teaching or support position (in professions such as those listed above) and either have completed or enroll in a college or university program in order to obtain the Administrative Credential.
Classified Employees
Employees hired in the classified service provide a variety of administrative and educational support services not requiring teaching credentials. Classified employees are employed in occupational fields including: Accounting, Data Processing, Secretarial, Maintenance, Facilities Management, Vocational Counseling, and Instructional Support.
