Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

The 2010 Kindergarten Readiness Act (California Senate Bill 1381) changed the date for children to start kindergarten and established a Transitional Kindergarten program. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first of a two-year kindergarten program. Beginning in the 2012 –2013 school year, this opportunity provides our youngest kindergartners (those born in the fall) with a readiness year that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.
SMCOE is working closely with San Mateo County school districts to support the implementation of TK and to provide training, coaching and consultation to teachers, with the generous support of the Heising-Simons Foundation.
