The San Mateo County Office of Education's (COE's) Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) project has the goal of making San Mateo County a healthier, safer, more sustainable, environmentally sound community with better air quality, less congestion and more physically fit students and adults. The San Mateo City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) is funding the project.
The COE will work collaboratively with schools and other agencies to provide resources in support of site-based programs that reduce traffic around schools, increase the numbers of students walking and biking to school, and develop greater understanding of healthy lifestyles. The project recognizes the important role of volunteers such as PTA members, Site Council leaders and others in SR2S and will support and promote their involvement in implementing activities that address local needs.
Technical assistance and site level grants will be available to schools during the 2011-2012 school year. For additional information, please refer to the links at the side of this page.
