The Court Schools provide educational programs for students from eight to 18 years of age, in both self-contained and single subject classrooms. Court Schools are mandatory and serve students who have been court ordered to Probation Department programs.
Hillcrest School

Hillcrest School is located in the San Mateo Youth Services Center, a secure facility providing temporary care for youth who have been detained and are awaiting a hearing or a court-ordered placement. The average stay at Hillcrest is approximately 35 days. The enrollment requires six teachers at a 20:1 student to teacher ratio. There is a part-time Independent Study teacher. The special education program includes a full time Resource Specialist, two special day classes and two part-time School Psychologists. English learners receive specialized services. Multiple classroom aides are assigned to the school. The curriculum is standards-based and individualized so that student progress is maintained. Daily enrollment is approximately 110 students. Hillcrest School can serve a maximum capacity of 180 students.
Camp Glenwood Boys Ranch & Margaret Kemp Girls Camp

The camps are minimum security gender-specific residential facilities. Camp Glenwood is located in La Honda, approximately 30 miles south of the city of San Mateo. Margaret Kemp Girls Camp is located in San Mateo. Students are between 13 and 18 years of age. Entering students often function below grade level due to poor school attendance and a lack of acquired skills. Special Education services are provided. The length of stay averages four to nine months at Camp Glenwood and two to four months at Kemp Girls Camp. Curriculum provided is standards-based, using textbooks adopted by the local high school districts so that students are able to transition seamlessly back to their home school. Camp Glenwood can serve a maximum capacity of 60 boys. Kemp Girls Camp can serve a maximum capacity of 30 girls.
