County Committee on School District Organization

The County Committee on School District Organization has the legal authority to review proposals to reorganize school or community college districts. The County Committee makes the decision to approve or deny proposals to transfer territory and makes recommendations to the State Board of Education on proposals to unify school districts. The County Committee reviews these types of proposals after the San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) receives a signed petition that meets legal requirements.

The County Committee is an independent, 11-member body. Its members are elected to four-year terms by the governing boards of school and community college districts. County Committee activities are supported by COE staff.
